my first Hard drive failure

My 74gb western digital raptor drive that was used for my operating system failed today. 
Can anyone recommend a reasonable replacement intended for operating system use only?
I am going to temporarily install Win7 on a 80gb partition of my 300gb game drive until I can get a replacement.
I prefer to have my operating system drive separate from game or storage drives. Luckily a tax return is in my immediate future, maybe I can get a SSD...?
I need approval from 'the Boss' considering I am income deficient.
