I am most interested to see the progress they have made for game performance in cities.
I wonder how the grass layer effect will perform for both AI and player-characters...

Sup Ziggy and USI. I tried Arma 2 and thought it was fine but its too buggy for me to play. Continual lock ups on my computer. Perhaps its just crappy Vista but it seems to be the only program with the problem and afterwards it causes continual lock ups until have restarted a few times. Maybe if a new patch corrects the problems I'll join ya.

terrain streaming has been adjusted for better performance in the latest beta patch, as stated in the OP, that could help, but I dont suggest using the beta for anything but testing. I only like to use the latest official version.

visit BIS troubleshooting, I've seen plenty of ppl with bad performance due to Vista.
There are tweaks and startup shortcut switches that can help, as well as using certain gfx settings.

tons of streaming is reading info from your HDD continuously, DEFRAG!
post your rigs specs, just cuz king

+edit+
I found this thread full of useful information about game configuration.
game_and_controls_configuration
First suggestion is to use XP or Win7 tongue

Quick question..

Why when I alt tab out of game, it takes a minute or two to get back to desktop. Same with exiting out the game.

Is it my memory or what?

even my computer, with 4Gb of ram, frequently says, 'nah I don't wanna tab out'.

I don't know the reason, or the fix, but I use a method to guarantee switching.

I Alt/Tab, and my screen displays the game but I have a desktop cursor.
I tab back in, then presss Ctrl/Alt/Delete.
then I try again to alt tab out again.
If it doesnt work (50/50), I tab back in, then try Alt/Esc.
one of those two key bindings should get you back to desktop

For some reason having the task manager open helps my Alt Tab/ Alt Esc.
I think it has something to do with that window having a priority.

using the above, I never fail switching from game to desktop for more than a few seconds.

If you know you are going to be tabbing back and forth (editing?) then use a windowed mode. Alt tab never fails me in windowed mode.

I have made many attempts using the suggestions on the wiki and forums and game still causes multiple stalls to make it unplayable. I'll wait for a new patch. If that works great - otherwise I'll stick with other games. Too bad they screwed CODMW. I think I might pick up Left for Dead 2.

Oh yeah - still says my username is taken

no one has your identity, the website and forums are separate registrations.
the xippy web forums have fewer options and functions. its crap and I refuse to use it.
I made these free forums with phpBB.
register with the forums!

YOUR USERNAME IS NOT TAKEN. YOU HAVE NOT REGISTERED WITH THE FORUMS YET!!!

what missions are you trying that makes you decide the game wont work on your computer. Do not use the Campaign as a benchmark, its crap.
Overclocking your CPU may help, as well as trying win7. Some claim that Xp32 works best for this game. Thats what I am using.
