Project Reality Empty Re: Project Reality

previously I had HDD space issues and the large mod was very low priority.
as of now I have plenty of space, just a lack of motivation.
As far as I know, the PR servers are few, and I don't like playing on a low pop server.

convince me.

LOL - tried to log in and someone else has my identity apparently.

I think you should try Project Reality. In my personal opinion and of those of many I play with, it is the best teamwork FPS game I have ever played. It is highly realistic (for a video game), runs very well, and is well designed. Its also a free mod for those with Vanilla BF2. Probably in a year or two it will be released as a finished product of its own sold in stores.

Let me add that it is not BF2 however. Its creators purpose was to to create a more realistic combat environment than standard Battlefield 2, and place a greater emphasis on teamwork and cooperation. You will not be able to lone gun in this game (unless maybe you’re a sniper but most snipers work with a spotter). You will have to work within a squad for any success to be had. Obviously the squad you work within has a large impact on your success and your level of fun. What I like is that the different squads (up to 9 per team I believe) basically have to work together to succeed. Its really cool when there is a good commander directing traffic. If you like flying – it has that; you like tanks – it has that; want to do just infantry – it has that. When choosing to spawn you have to choose what type of soldier you will be (automatic rifleman, medic, specialist, etc… and there are other kits (anti-tank) to choose from crates though there are a limited number of such things allowed per team/squad and if the enemy picks up your kit your team will not have it as long as that person lives). There are different game types but I mostly like AAS where you have to capture and hold control points in a specified order.

In terms of its success, Project Reality has won second place two years running in ModDB.com annual Mod of the Year competition. The Mod is currently in its eighth incarnation, Project Reality 0.87. Gaming magazines have given it very high ratings.
The main problems with Project Reality are that it has a very steep learning curve and some games have a much slower pace. If you want a COD or CSS style of game you won’t like it. Some people also complain that the ballistic system is tough to handle since your bullets will not automatically go directly where your sights are aiming. Accuracy depends on position, time spent targeting the opponent in, distance, movement, stance, etc… My advice, play the game with somebody who already knows what the hell they are doing. There are practice servers as well.
Finally, like you mentioned Zig there are limited servers available in comparison to the more popular games out there. I usually only play at night and there are 1-6 active servers (for AAS) which hold up to 64 players per server. That is a problem in some ways but I almost never have a problem finding a full server to play on at the times I want to play. I don’t know what the availability looks like during the day honestly. Another complaint has been that certain servers are tending to play only a few maps repeatedly. I think this is being addressed but that seems common to most games where the favorite maps tend to be overplayed.
