Re: BF2 problems+solutions
press tilde key when in game (~)
type without quotes "pb_sleep 500"
then
type w/o quotes "pb_writecfg"
this changes the time punkbuster searches your harddrive from every 20 seconds to every 500 seconds.
this will not conflict with punkbuster in any way, or get you kicked.
to my knowledge you will have to do this each time you join a server, it doesnt stay 500 permanently.
also
try renaming the bf2.exe to something else. It will of course disable your shortcuts, so you will have to redirect them to your newly named .exe

Re: BF2 problems+solutions
a common response on certain forums for the ctd issue is to delete the bf2 folder from your "My Documents". The game will re-detect your system. You will lose your custom key settings, favorites etc but it may stop the ctd problem
Re: BF2 problems+solutions
he could try it by backing up the controls, video, and general dot con files, and then replacing them after you delete the bf2 folder. then he would retain his key mapping, video settings, and the annoying tutor voice would not start over.
probably should do that for each profile.
seeing as how deleting all of the contents from the bf2 folder in my documents would require a virtual starting over of your bf2 settings, I would use it as a last resort.

Saving each of those files would be a good plan. Start with a clean bf2 after deleting, then see if the ctd stops...then save the "clean" files, then replace those files 1 at a time until the ctd starts to happen again. For troubleshooting purposes, I would play with whatever settings bf2 wants to use after you delete the bf2 folder just to see if the ctd's stop. Doesn't make much sense to delete the files then when new ones are created, go back to the settings that could be causing your problems in the first place!
